How to Keep Your Swimming Pool Water Clean

When the summer sun is blazing and the mercury spikes, you probably cannot wait to jump into a cool, refreshing pool and take a swim. However, you also know that the azure water can start to turn green or yellow in the blink of an eye. Staying on top of pool maintenance is critical, especially when it is hot outside. In this article, we will explore ways to keep your pool water clean.

Monitor the Pool’s Chemistry

You might feel like a geeky child from high school running pool chemistry tests, but it is essential to keep the water clean. Ideally, you should run a chemistry test twice a week during the summer and every week in the winter. The pool water’s pH should stay between 7.2 and 7.3. If the pH is lower, your pool does not need as much chlorine. However, when the pH level rises, the chlorine starts to lose its effectiveness. If you keep the pH level controlled then you will not have to use very much chlorine.

Clean the Skimmer

Your pool’s skimmer basket needs cleaning once or twice a week. Continue to dump the contents of the pool skimmer’s basket when needed so the device keeps removing the unwanted debris such as dead insects and leaves from your pool that can spur algae growth.

Check the Pool’s Water Level

If you let the pool’s water level fall too low, then it can cause the pump to work overtime and it might even burn up. Also, if you have recently experienced an excessive amount of rain then the pool’s water might be too high, and it will cause the skimmer to malfunction.

Clean the Pool’s Filter System

You will need to regularly clean the filter on the pool. In some pool’s it is a simple cartridge filter. If you fail to keep the pool’s filter system clean, then the flow rate will decrease, and waste will build up. You will need to backwash the pool’s pump too to help keep the water clean. If the area where you live has recently experienced a heavy storm, then you need to evaluate the condition of your pool and clean it.

Frequently Run the Pump

You will need to run the pool pump from eight to 12 hours per day to keep the water circulating and prevent algae or bacteria from growing on the sides and bottom. Running the pool pump pushes the pool’s water through the filter which quickly traps any particles or debris. In addition, maintaining good pool circulation helps to mix the chemicals to keep the water looking great.

Central Florida Pool Enclosures

A pool enclosure keeps leaves, bugs, and other debris out of your pool’s water. In addition, it protects you while you swim and lounge poolside from biting insects. In the Sunshine State, having a pool enclosure is a huge perk that also increases your home’s value.
