Kid Friendly Florida: Outdoor Holiday Games

Whether you have a fenced in backyard or an outdoor kitchen, the holiday season can get a little stuffy if there are too many people indoors. If you have kids or guests with kids you might want to take advantage of the awesome Florida weather all year round and host some holiday activities outside. From holiday brunches to outdoor gift exchanges, there are so many ways to enjoy your time outdoors.

We’ve compiled a list of easy to do holiday games that are great for the backyard. Whether you do one or all of these, we are sure these will add a little bit of fun for every age during your time together this year.

Holiday Movie Charades

This one is a classic! Most people remember charades from their school-age days so why not bring this classic back with a holiday twist. Grab some index cards or pieces of paper and compile a list of holiday movies and family favorites that everyone will know and kick off the time with some holiday movie charades. Remember to loop in the little ones–they might need help remembering some of those old film classics but hey, now is the perfect time to learn!

Bean Bag Ladder Toss

Grab a ladder from the garage or shed and a bean bag or two and you are almost ready for an easy to make game. Open the ladder in the backyard and grab a few pieces of paper and your favorite markers and for each step on the ladder add points. For example, the space between step one and two is 10 points, step three and four 20 points, and so on. For extra holiday fun, decorate the ladder with holiday lights and create your points using holiday colors with markers. You can make it as elaborate as you’d like but this is a simple way to add some hands-on activities for the young and young at heart this season.

Football Toss

Whether you’re using a grill to grill some veggies for a side dish or deep frying a turkey, why not have even more games outdoors this year by adding a twist to a favorite holiday pass time during thanksgiving; football. Football toss is similar to cornhole where the idea is to launch the football into the appropriate hole for points. If you don’t have wood to set this game up, no worries you can always grab some buckets. Get creative! The idea is to get outside, grab some healthy sunlight, breathe some fresh air, and most importantly have fun.

Fire Pit Pass the Story

Does anyone remember that game where you start telling a story, then stop randomly and allow the next person to continue? Some people call it Tall Tale, others call it Pass the Story. The idea is to get creative as a group. Fire up the fire pit, grab some s’mores and get ready to pass the story. Want to keep it in theme with the holidays? Easy, just add a rule that the theme must revolve around the holidays. You’ll be sure to laugh!
