Labor Day Staycation 101: Top Ten Easy Ways to Create the Perfect Labor Day From Your Very Own Home

Central Florida, the vacation capital of the world, from theme parks to natural springs and beaches, this place we call home is often associated with a vacation for many people all over the world. For us, this place might often involve a lot of hard work throughout the year. Whether you work from home or outside in the tropical climate, we all deserve to celebrate a day of extra rest on a holiday we call Labor Day. The best part is: we don’t have to travel to do it!

1.) Celebrate you own space:

Labor Day arose out of the industrial revolution here in the 1800s in the United States. Many people, including five and six year olds were working in factories seven days a week for twelve hour shifts. I think you might agree, a bit of time spent resting at home was called for. Why not take the first step during this Labor Day and rest at home. Grab a warm cup of coffee and hang out on the back porch or sit around and watch your favorite show. Enjoying our free time by simply existing in the space we call home can bring us to higher states of appreciation and gratitude. After all, it was through your hard work that you have achieved the space you live in–enjoy it.

2.) Lounge around

Whether you grab that coffee and lounge on the couch or head to the porch for some people watching, the foundation for a perfect Labor Day staycation is to lounge out. Luxuriate in your screened in pool area and enjoy not only the fact that you have an extra day off but that you are in one of the best places to be during the month of September. Tropical Florida weather all year round is what we’re all cheering about.

3.) Fire up the Grill

Even though we know that grilling only gained popularity after the 50s and 60s, why not make an homage to the hard workers in the 1800s with a nice backyard barbecue. We can definitely celebrate the hard work it took to make sure we all had the chance to make not only a living but also a life.

4.) Kickback under the pergola

Whether you decide to grab a bowl of grapes and time travel and pretend you are in ancient Greece or you simply want some shade outside; the pergola is the place for a staycation. From top places to read around the house to a place for perfect dinners with friends, the pergola is a key place for a staycation. It adds a new atmosphere to experience and can bring more natural sunlight into your days.

5.) Hammock naps in the lanai

Who knows what the weather will be like on Labor Day. One thing we do know is that a staycation allows for fun and relaxation in all types of climates. Your lanai is the perfect indoor outdoor space for relaxation. Add a hammock to the space and take an afternoon nap. Add some speakers and have a dance party. It is your house and your rules–regardless of the weather.

6.) Have a backyard picnic

Maybe firing up the grill sounds like too much work. Maybe a pub-sub is the best way to celebrate a day off in Florida. Grab a blanket and your favorite drinks and snacks and head out to your backyard for an unforgettable picnic. Pro tip, a fenced in backyard keeps pets and neighbors from wandering in looking for free samples of your delicious food.

7.) Try a new recipe

Speaking of delicious food, why not spend your time trying out a new recipe. We all might have a handful of recipes we want to try our luck at but rarely have the time. Why not use the day to create some delicious meals with a new recipe. Whether you try it out in your summer kitchen or create indoors, spend some time trying something new. Some of the best memories are around food.

8.) Sprinkler party

If you have little ones, actually, even if you don’t why not bring back the old time fun and have a sprinkler party. Turn on the sprinklers and run through. Get your exercise in and play tag outside with the sprinklers on. Celebrate the weather and enjoy your days bringing some good old fashioned fun into your space.

9.) Have a movie marathon

End the day with a movie marathon. Whether you set up the movie screen outdoors on the fence or with a screen in the pool space, or lounge out indoors. Pop some popcorn and grab some of your favorite films and relax and enjoy.

10.) Cast your cares away around the fire pit

After the move head on over to the fire pit for some time talking or simply meditating. If you really want to add a Labor day tradition to your list, spend five minutes writing down any stressors about work onto a piece of paper
